Die Voorkamer was used by the Standers as their formal lounge and Die Musiekkamer as their informal lounge and housed the piano and other musical instruments. Because of the 3,6-meter-high ceilings, the rooms are lovely and cool in summer and in winter we find that the clay walls retain the heat very well. They both have working fireplaces - the Victorian fireplaces have been left intact and a small, closed-combustion stove installed using the existing chimney.
